Prologue

“Luisa, stop the car! Now!”

Natalia’s eyes widened as she clutched her front dashboard. The pavement was slick. Rainwater drenched the windshield because Luisa hadn’t turned on the wipers. She didn’t seem to care that she couldn’t see.

Luisa wasn’t even looking at the curvy road in front of them. She turned her head, looking directly at Natalia. “Tell me. Say it. You want to fuck Trixi, that bitch!”

“Luisa, slow down! You are going too fast,” Natalia screamed.

“Tell me!”

“Fine, I won’t. Just stop the car. You’re gonna kill us.” Natalia’s eyes darted between Luisa and the road. It was inevitable. The rain was too hard for them not to slide out of control in a vehicle that continued to pick up speed in the downward spiral of the Hollywood Hills, going way too fast for anyone, sober or not.

“Bullshit!” Luisa hollered, but her voice turned soft, almost depressive and melancholy. “Maybe that’s the only way to keep you away from her. To die.”

Natalia’s head flicked toward her in shock, ignoring the road and the rain. There was a sadness in Luisa’s eyes, far beyond anything she had seen before with her best friend. It was mixed with hatred, almost as if they were turning from her normal shade of green to white.

That was when Natalia realized it was from the headlights of an oncoming vehicle. She felt the Jeep lunge forward, as if racing from zero to sixty as fast as Luisa could take it. Light blinded them as the vehicle came up upon them. When Luisa didn’t brake, Natalia reached for the steering wheel and jerked it to the right in order to swerve away.

With a bang, the Jeep jolted to an abrupt halt.

Glass shattered.
