About the author
I write The Heiress and the Veterinarian, a serialized soap opera set in a small town called Misty Hollow, where the residents are ponies and the problems are entirely human — inheritance disputes, municipal code violations, bad marriages, worse secrets, and a veterinary practice staffed by two ponies who can't stand each other for approximately forty episodes.
Tabitha Fershund is an heiress determined to live as a commoner, at which she is bad. Dr. Thomas Fairfax is a veterinarian who used to have magic and would rather not discuss it. Around them: a Bigfoot healer, a fan who writes gore-fic about Tabby, an animal control officer with a flexible relationship to protocol, a priest who performs the occasional exorcism, and a secret organization that has been quietly arranging their family trees for millennia.
Two seasons and sixty-odd episodes in, posting from the beginning. I write it the way soaps run — ensemble cast, overlapping arcs, dramatic irony doing most of the heavy lifting. Slow-burn romance at the center, mystery and small-town politics around the edges, dry humor throughout. Nobody learns a tidy lesson.

Thomas Fairfax is sixteen, three years younger than anyone else in the pre-veterinary program at New Pony University, and the only unicorn in his class who won't light his horn. His parents gave him the rule and never gave him the reason. Our family doesn't use magic. That's just how it is.
The rule is easy enough to keep when he's outworking everyone anyway — including Toby Collins, a second-year with a surname on a hospital wing and a father who golfs with the dean. Their rivalry is the best thing in Thomas's life. It's certainly the only thing he's any good at.
Then a ship goes down in March, and Thomas is a seventeen-year-old orphan with a tween sister, a lease he can't legally hold, and a hearing date. Everything his parents built comes down to what he can carry.
